“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John’s grasp of who Jesus is goes well beyond the historical facts of Jesus’ life on earth. Clearly, when he wrote his Gospel account, he was completely convinced that Jesus is God, Creator, and Savior.
Q: What does it mean to you that the Creator becomes the created? What does that say about the Creator’s opinion of and love for his creation?
It’s so wonderfully incomprehensible. God saw our need and provided a way…or THE WAY.
Robster –
So true! It bends my mind that God would become part of his own creation, and yet that fact tells me that his Creation is so much more than just a ‘thing,’ such as man might create.
God put on skin. Confined Himself in every way to conception, development in the human womb and living as a human being ( His creation ) without the sin nature of man. He lived a life being tempted in every way as a human yet without sin as an example to all.
Hi Ron!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!! What a wonderful way to put it, that God, “put on skin.” He did! Yet without sin. I guess you might say that the sin is not in the skin. 🙂 The sin is in the altered nature of man’s heart that we see happening in Genesis 3.
What does it mean to you that the Creator becomes the created?
The Creator has always been, and always will be. He does not depend on anything or anyone.
Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”
The created, on the other hand, has a beginning and is dependent on the creator in some capacity. In this case though the Creator (God) became the created (Jesus), and Jesus held both the attributes of the Creator and the created. Jesus prayed to the Father, and asked of the Father, showing His dependence on God as the created. At the same time, Jesus is the Creator, because He is one with God.
John 8:54-58 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!” “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
What does that say about the Creator’s opinion of and love for his creation?
That God didn’t create us to be slaves, but to enjoy eternity with Him. He created us to be with Him, and was willing to die so that we could be with Him even after our sin.
Ephesians 2:4–10 “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Chris,
Great thoughts today! I find this concept – that God became man – completely mind-blowing. (Not that I have that much mind to blow!)
There is something amazingly special about being human. If nothing else, it is – as you point out- that we are loved so deeply by our Creator.
