John 2: 22
“After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.”
John fast forwards the narrative ahead three years for a moment to a time after Jesus had been raised from the dead. The disciples remember what Jesus had said about the temple, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
Q: What scripture is John referring to that might have referred to the words Jesus had spoken?
Psalm 69:9
Sorry, 69:9, Zeal for my fathers house.
Ps 16:10
And to think the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Awesomely humbling.
Yep Robster we are Blessed!!!
Great question. And some great answers too. Psalm 16: 8 – 11 has already been mentioned and its fulfillment is clearly stated in Acts 2: 25 – 28. Palm 110: 1 shows that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father and could be another example. I personally also think Zechariah 12: 10 indicates a risen Messiah as does Isaiah 53: 10 – 12 (Both are Messianic passages and that is what makes sense from what is said there). Another possibility, although not as clear is Job 19: 25 – 26. The important point is that He is alive and is not dead.
Wow, I spent a lot of time on this one. I looked at a lot of scriptures to see if I could find a prophesy or reference to destroying the temple. Jesus talks about destroying the temple a few times. I read some believe He is talking about Himself, and I have read that others believe He is talking about the way the Israelites/Jews worshipped God. Honestly, it can be both as those two thoughts marry together. I had never quite realized that people used this to mock Jesus when He was on the cross. The more I follow this blog the more I realize just how little I know.
Well said, Chris.
The more I seek the truth, the more I realize how little I know, too.
The awareness of how little we know is an important indication that we are on the right path!
