John 6: 20
” But he said to them, ‘It is I; don’t be afraid.’”
It is almost as if Jesus knew that he was needed. His disciples left alone, chose not to wait for him. Instead, they headed out on their own, climbing into a boat and rowing out on dark waters. What should have been a pleasant two hour journey had turned into an all-night rowing marathon fighting waves and wind. Hope of finding Jesus on the other side of the lake had turned into raw fear; a fear of not having the strength to get to shore again.
Into this scene steps Jesus. Instead of being reassured at the sight of their master coming to them, the disciples are terrified even more. (If this were a scene in a movie, the music would be really loud and scary right now!) Here again, we see an example of Jesus knowing what is going on in his disciple’s minds. The crowds are far behind them. No one else is around on the lake. Only the twelve disciples in a small boat and their Lord coming to them walking on the water, and he knows that they are scared, and he also knows that his appearance is scaring them even more.
Q: What do you imagine the sound of Jesus’ voice would have been like in the midst of all that was going on?
Our Lord speaks to our hearts rather than our ears. I am certain the voice of Jesus calmed their hearts.
Thanks Ron!
That is my sense, too. I kind of think that they must have felt his voice as much as heard it over the wind and the rain.
Absolutely Jeff!

Calming but easily to follow and reassuring with the faith.
