John 7: 14-15
” Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?'”
Hmmm… Ever wonder how smart Jesus is? Being God means never having to worry about someone else knowing more than you do. There are many reasons to believe Jesus is God. Some are subtle and some are overt. The reason in this passage is a bit on the subtle side. Jesus knows the scriptures because he saw them being written. He knows Moses and David personally. He and Abraham go way back. So when Jesus speaks about the scriptures, he is not referring to words that he has studied as a man would study them. Instead, he speaks about what he knows.
Q: How do we get our heads around Jesus’ point of view on Scriptures?
Joh1:1, 1:14, Jesus is God. He came to give Himself for our sins. Part of His giving Himself was to be born and grow into adulthood just as we do. To be an example to us and be tempted by sin without sinning, and to spend 3 years ministering to us. He explained His word in terms we could understand, defining murder and adultery and of course Gods commandments as He did in Matthew 22:36-40 for example. We are to express His word to the world in His love, not in condemnation as the religious leaders of His time so often did, and He gave us the Holy Spirit to do this through each of us to the degree we give ourselves.
I believe this was the Biggy, this changed the world.
Ron,
As usual, you share a solid perspective on the Word. I especially like the point you make when you write, “We are to express His word to the world in His Love…” It is not ours to judge. The work of loving as God loves us is much harding that passing out condemnation. A very worthy goal! Thanks!!
Jesus is God revealed to us in the most personal way, scripture is God’s written self revelation. Jesus knows them as an author knows his own works. I find this comforting rather than frustrating. It would bother me if Jesus didn’t have a profound and deep knowledge of scripture.
