” The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.
Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.’
The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?'”
Where is Jesus going? We have noted several times that Jesus speaks like he is from another place, and not of this world. Now he is speaking like he is going to a place different from this world.
When Jesus came into this world he came as a baby and grew into a man. Had he been to earth before? Many believe that there are stories in the Bible which suggest Jesus has been here before. Like Moses and Elijah appearing on the mountaintop during the transfiguration of Jesus, so Jesus himself may have visited earth before crossing over from one place to another. Now we are being told that he can and will go back to that place.
It is almost as if there is an invisible door between this world and the place where God lives. Of course, it is not a real door, but rather a doorway, like the looking-glass in Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” books.
Q: If there were a door that led to heaven and you could see it, would you want to go through it knowing that it was a one-way door?
Yes. Heaven is home and I am excited about being there. I am not excited about dying or the dying process – so a one way door sounds great. If I am correct on a pre-tribulation rapture some will get to experience this like Enoch and Elijah did. Either way – Jesus is the door to eternal life with Him in heaven.
I believe we would all want to go through that door. However if we all left, who would tell others about Christ? We are now eternal beings, and have the pleasure of His company to the degree we choose to live in obedience. Frankly life is passing far faster than I ever imagined and I actually treasure every moment I have left. As Jesus says, ” The harvest is vast and the workers are few “.
It’s getting vaster and fewer fast!
