In verses 69-71 (“Horn of Salvation”) we looked at the difference between how the Israelites viewed their enemies and who God sees as the real “enemy.” In this passage, Zechariah returns to that same theme but here he explains the reason why this is important.
…the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
and to enable us to serve him without fear
in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
Luke 1: 73-75
To serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness is a picture of great beauty.
Q: How would life be different if we could serve our God without fear?
It is interesting how many times and angel or God Himself said “Do not fear.” Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. If we belong to Him there is no reason to fear anything else. If we can remove fear of men then our service would be greatly impacted and more meaningful.
Thanks Rich!
The fear of the Lord and the fear of others are related, but different. One is holy, the other is selfish. Being free of the selfish kind of fear is being truly free.
Since I’m somewhat of a mature Christian, I hope that how I serve and live now looks like I’m living without fear. I guess I hope it looks like me. 🤓
