Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
What good is a “secret admirer?” I don’t know if I have ever had one, but I have been one. There were a few girls whom I admired during my school years but never asked out on a date. They seemed above my station I suppose. Does it do a girl any good to have an admirer she doesn’t know about?
In a similar way, there were some Jews who were leaders in the community. They found themselves intrigued by Jesus and in their heart convinced that Jesus was who he said he was. Did they ever tell Jesus that they believed in Him? Did they ever tell anyone?
What good is a believer who won’t admit that they believe?
Let’s Discuss: Is there any value in having a secret admirer? In being one?
Well, I suppose having a secret admirer is better than having a admiring fan that follows you everywhere! Though your point is taken. It goes for other relationships, too. If I never openly complement or congratulate my buddies, our friendships would be really hallow. Because, in all types of relationships, I think there is something to saying things like, “Hey! I think your a really cool person.”
J Glasgow,
Thanks for your comment! You raise an interesting point: Does God like to hear from us? Does He appreciate praise and worship? I think the answer is “Yes!”
I think J Glasgow and J Englund are awesome!
Part of ironing sharpening iron is letting other guys know when you think they’ve done a good job at something, not just constructive criticism.
Have a great day! BrentG
Thanks Brent,
Nice comment! 🙂
Well, personally I think I am too old to have secret admirers in the classic sense. I do feel that if you respect someone it is better to let them know. If it is appropriate admiration, or I am going with encouragement, people can use the encouragement. And if it is for Christ, He knows how you feel, but others do not and they need to know how we feel about Jesus so that we can glorify Him.
Old or not, Rich, you have a lot of admirers! One big thing you are admired for is how you glorify Jesus. In a way, that makes your point. Thank you!
