Convinced – John 13: 19

I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am.

Imagine that you have the ability to tell the future. By closing your eyes and concentrating on a question about the future, the answer comes to you. And it is always right. How would you use this power?

Some might use it to build a fortune in the stock market. Others might use the power for political gain. Still, others might want to impress their friends. But how would you do that?

If you wanted to convince people that you could predict the future the obvious thing to do is tell people what will happen tomorrow. When it happens as you predict, people will say … what?

What will people say? Will they be convinced that you can tell the future, or will they be suspicious that it was a fluke or some kind of trick? My guess is that while a few might believe, most would be skeptical. Even if you repeat the “trick” time and time again there will be those who remain skeptical.

“That’s not possible!” could be something they might say.

Jesus has the power to know the future. He is able to tell his disciples what will happen. Again and again, he speaks as someone who was looking down on the world from outside of space and time. Jesus knows. Yet almost no one believes.

Let’s Discuss: Who does Jesus want people to believe he is?

  1. I think Peter’s response in Matthew 16 was one that pleased Jesus: “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Martha’s response in John 11 was also good when she said: “Yes, Lord: I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God.” He wants us to believe what is true of Him. He is God. He is the fulfillment of the prophesied Messiah. He is the way, the truth and the life.

    1. Thank you, Rich. Well said! I almost asked the question, “What does Jesus want people to believe He is?” Getting our heads around who Jesus really is can be a real challenge. 🙂

  2. I really appreciate you all dropping in to say ‘Hi.’ Thank you! If I can offer you a mental munchie for the day, I feel like I have accomplished something. 🙂

  3. We love your spiritual munchies almost daily …we like low carb munchies too just not daily.
