Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Summary: Giving thanks can lead to celebrating, and celebrations can lead to too much food. Too much food leads to napping, and naps lead to taking a short break from Ephesians.
Okay — I have to confess. I’ve been napping on and off instead of writing. I blame it on the turkey!* Tryptophan is an amino acid that is supposed to make us sleepy after eating turkey, so you might say I have been “tripping on tryptophan.”
In the meantime, while we recover from Thanksgiving’s feast, let’s ponder the wisdom of 1 Chronicles 16:34.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Our relationship with the Father is not based on our goodness or how smart we are. It is not based on what we have or what we do. It is based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. A sacrifice motivated by godly love.
Thankfully, God’s love “endures forever.” Thank you, Jesus!
Application: Love God back.
Food for Thought: How do we show our thanks to God?
We show our gratitude by offering our hearts, lives, time, and resources back to Him, to further His Kingdom, to serve His purpose. We offer Him praise for who He is: Holy, righteous, and loving. We marvel at His greatness, and even though He is almighty, we hold thankfulness that He loves all His creation, and each creation individually.
Jude 1:25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
Chris,
Thank you for the thoughtful, loving response! The appropriate gratitude for saving our lives is really what you describe — undying devotion and thankfulness.
11-25-2023, How do we show our thanks to God?
I have heard the effects of turkey dinner are directly related to the amount eaten. Just saying!
Through Jesus Christ we have become capable of sacrificing, overcoming the power of our flesh, and continually growing spiritually as we submit to and serve God. We acknowledge His name and Sovereign power in all circumstances. We find peace as we become anxious for nothing. Knowing all things will work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. We live in peace as we make our requests known to Him, and live in submission to His response over our desires. God always has something better in mind.
Hebrews 13:15, Psalm 106:1,1 Thessalonians 5:18, Philippians 4:6, Romans 8:28
Ha Ha Ha… There may be some distant relationship between the quantity of turkey consumed and the propensity one has to take a short respite from the demands of the holiday, but I have not seen any peer reviewed papers on the topic that would verify your not-so-subtle innuendo.
As to thanking God, I completely agree, and I love the verses you selected for today! Blessings!! 🙂
