Titus 3:1 (b) — Rulers and Authorities

Remind the people … to be subject to rulers and authorities …

Summary: Being subject to authority is a common topic in the Bible. It seems unfair that we would have to serve an ungodly ruler. Yet this world is not all there is. We need to serve God and trust in his eternal plan.

Titus 2:15 (c) — Superpower

Do not let anyone despise you.

Summary: The word “despise” sounds like an emotional response. Yet it can also be an expression of disrespect. Paul’s instruction on this matter requires some thought and perspective.

Titus 2:15 (a) — Syllabus

These, then, are the things you should teach.

Titus 2:14 (c) — The Keys of Heaven

… and to purify for himself a people that are his very own …

Summary: Learning to live for God is a purifying process. We give up what is ungodly and embrace what is godly. Having paid the price for our redemption, God changes us into people who are his very own.

Titus 2:13 (a) — Gospel Train

… while we wait for the blessed hope …

Titus 2:9 (c) — Footsteps

… not to talk back to them …

Summary: Authority in others is a difficult thing for us to accept. Whether legitimate or not, we tend to bridle when told what to do. Yet God’s Word teaches us not to talk back to them.

Titus 2:5 (c) — Building the Future

Then they can urge the younger women… to be … busy at home …

Summary: The world views this passage in a very hostile way, yet a world without homes is a very bleak place indeed.

Titus 2:2 (h) — Humbled by Gravity

Teach the older men to be … sound … in endurance.

Summary: The word endurance can refer to something you have done (i.e. – He endured a difficult moment) or it can refer to an ongoing process (i.e. – His endurance kept him going at it day after day). Paul wants us to learn both, but he is talking about the second kind in today’s passage.

Titus 2:2 (c) — Mr. Diggs

Teach the older men to be … worthy of respect …

Summary: Respect is different for the worldly than it is for the believer. Worldly people are impressed by outward appearance. Spiritual people are impressed by one’s closeness to God.
