Summary: The devil is always seeking to separate God’s chosen from the flock. He does this by distracting us from the Word and from prayer. Our safety is found only in God.

Summary: Peter commends those under the authority of the church elders to submit to them. Yet there are two kinds of elders.

Summary: We often think of things that may happen in the future as happening ”someday.” Peter is not so vague. Talking about Jesus, the Chief Shepherd, Peter says ”when” he comes. It makes a difference!

1 Peter 5:1 (c) — Suffering

Summary: When Peter says that he is a ”witness of Christ’s sufferings” he invites us to not only examine Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, but the way that Jesus lived his life and what he endured while here on earth.

Summary: In this half of verse 18, Peter points to two types of people who reject the kingdom of God. While we might tend to lump them together, it is worth examining what Peter is pointing us to.

1 Peter 4:14 — Skin

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 

Summary: Regardless of whether we are thin-skinned or thick-skin, when we have the Spirit and glory of Jesus on us, the world will insult us. Respond with God’s love.
