[He saved us so that we might become heirs] … having the hope of eternal life. 

Summary: Buying a house is hard work. It takes determination and dedication. These same qualities are valuable to us as we wait for our new heavenly home.

At one time we too were … deceived …

Summary: Being a demon is hard work. You cannot force people to leave God’s Light, you have to tempt them. Fortunately for the demons, their work is made easier when we turn our back on God.

Summary: Paul the apostle makes the case that everyone has been foolish at some time, even the apostles chosen by Jesus himself.

Titus 2:14 (b) — Up and Down

… to redeem us from all wickedness …

Summary: Being redeemed is not like snapping your fingers. It is a process. There is a payment to be made, and then there is a collection process. Eventually we see our Redeemer face to face. At that point we have been redeemed.

Titus 2:12 (a) — Saying “No”

 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions …

Summary: Matthew chapter four recounts the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. He is sent into the wilderness without food for forty days and nights. What happens next are a series of questions Satan poses to Jesus. These questions help us understand what godly behavior looks like.

Titus 2:9 (a) III — The Line

Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, … 

Summary: When Paul says people are to be subject to human authority in “everything,” he is not placing human authority above God. Instead, our submission to human authority is intended to serve God by glorifying him.

Summary: The world views this passage in a very hostile way, yet a world without homes is a very bleak place indeed.

Titus 2:2 (h) — Humbled by Gravity

Teach the older men to be … sound … in endurance.

Summary: The word endurance can refer to something you have done (i.e. – He endured a difficult moment) or it can refer to an ongoing process (i.e. – His endurance kept him going at it day after day). Paul wants us to learn both, but he is talking about the second kind in today’s passage.

Teach the older men to be … sound … in faith

Summary: Faith is a word that has a special meaning for Christians. It describes not only our relationship with an unseen God, it also describes our confidence in God.
