Titus 3:8 (a) — Liturgy

This is a trustworthy saying. 

Summary: What is trustworthy? Mainstream churches use a structured worship called a liturgy. The liturgy was written centuries ago to honor God’s Word. Today, liturgies still in use reflect the same truths, but they cannot guarantee that modern church leaders follow suit.

Titus 3:7 (c) — New House

[He saved us so that we might become heirs] … having the hope of eternal life. 

Summary: Buying a house is hard work. It takes determination and dedication. These same qualities are valuable to us as we wait for our new heavenly home.

Titus 2:10 (b) — Division or Unity?

… but to show that they can be fully trusted …

Summary: We are all slaves to something. Paul says we are slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness. We all need to show that we can be fully trusted.

Then they can urge the younger women… to be … subject to their husbands …

Summary: Paul’s message in this passage is not to the people of the world. It is to the believer. It is the path to greatness for mother and child alike.

Titus 2:2 (c) — Mr. Diggs

Teach the older men to be … worthy of respect …

Summary: Respect is different for the worldly than it is for the believer. Worldly people are impressed by outward appearance. Spiritual people are impressed by one’s closeness to God.

—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 

Summary: What is honest gain? From that we can learn what dishonest gain is. Knowing what to look for, we can avoid entanglements with those who are working against God.

Summary: People tend to cling to their own perspectives. It is hard to let go. When we read something we don’t understand, we put a sticky note over the words with our own understanding written on top. This is where disagreements begin.

Summary: The meaning of the word, “church” helps us understand who Paul is talking to and what his words mean. We are not called to a denomination, we are called to a public gathering in the name of Christ.

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message …

Summary: The message Paul has given Titus and other church leaders is much more than just a word, it is The Word from Jesus himself.
