Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 4 — Schedule Update

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance (Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 4)

Summary: A brief update on my schedule for the next few weeks.

Rom 8:28 — Promises

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Summary: Whether we like it or not, the question of death is lurking in the back of our mind. Having a loved one pass from this life to the next challenges everything we believe.

Proverbs 13:7 — Keeping Up Appearances

One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
    another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

Summary: This proverb is not really about being rich or poor. Instead, it is about pride and humility.

Proverbs 13:6 — Dual Nature

Righteousness guards the person of integrity,

Proverbs 13:5 — Stinky

The righteous hate what is false,
    but the wicked make themselves a stench
    and bring shame on themselves.

Summary: Stenches are a funny thing. To some people they stink but to others they smell good.

Proverbs 13:3 — Rash Talk

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,
    but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.

Summary: The words we say have consequences. Restricting the number of words we speak can be a way of limiting the consequences.

Proverbs 13:2 — War of Words

Credit for today’s cartoon goes to my grandchildren who provided inspiration and ideas.

From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things,
    but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence.

Summary: What we say becomes the “fruit” of our lips. The kind of fruit that comes from our mouths speaks volumes about the kind of people we are.

Proverbs 13:1 — God the Father

A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,
    but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.

Summary: Seeing God as our Father instead of a distant entity is a relatively new thing. Jesus changed everything when he came to earth. He revealed the Father’s love for us.

In the way of righteousness there is life;
    along that path is immortality.

Summary: People have sought the path to immortality for centuries and some have given their lives to find it. Solomon shows us the answer in this verse.
