Proverbs 10:12 — The Antidote

Hatred stirs up conflict,
    but love covers over all wrongs.

Summary: Even though this proverb seems to be stating the obvious, it contains an amazing truth. The love that covers all wrongs is the most powerful force in the universe.

Proverbs 10:10 — Bug Eyes

Whoever winks maliciously causes grief,
    and a chattering fool comes to ruin.

Summary: It turns out that people communicate with their eyes almost as much as they do with their mouths.

Proverbs 10:11 — Open Wide

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
    but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Summary: The mouth is an important part of our body. It can be used to reveal who we are or to deceive others about what we are.

Proverbs 10:9 — The Way We Walk

Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
    but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

Summary: Understanding this proverb teaches us a lot about ourselves and each other. To walk in integrity requires an understanding of God’s Word. To avoid the crooked paths requires a heart devoted to the Lord.

Proverbs 10:8 — Chattering

The wise in heart accept commands,
    but a chattering fool comes to ruin.

Summary: Whether or not a person accepts commands is immediately obvious to anyone watching. How we respond to legitimate commands says a lot about our character.

Summary: The Bible is the most unique and revered book ever written. There is a reason for that. It connects us with our Creator.

Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
    but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.

Summary: Translating from an ancient text can be a challenge. Today’s passage is one of the more challenging passages. How does violence overwhelm the mouth?

Proverbs 10:4 — Dual Meanings

Lazy hands make for poverty,
    but diligent hands bring wealth.

Summary: The Bible is a unique document in that it was written in heaven and recorded on earth. The dual nature of Scripture carries water both in this world and the next.
