… because he stood condemned.

Summary: Today’s passage uses the word “condemned.” Because the word can mean that we have passed judgment on someone, we look at other possible meanings for the original Greek text.

Galatians 2:10 – God’s Pickle

All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

Summary: Being God is a bit like being a parent. As parents, we want our children to learn to do good and avoid doing evil. But we can’t live our children’s lives for them.

Galatians 2:9a – Esteemed as Pillars

James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me.

Galatians 2:8 – World History in Four Parts

For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.

Galatians 2:7 – Validity

On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

Summary: Paul’s assignment from God wasn’t a figment of his imagination. It was real. We know this because the apostles in Jerusalem affirmed Paul’s gospel.

Galatians 2:6a – Pecking Order

As for those who were held in high esteem —whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—

Galatians 2:5 – Peer Pressure

We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

Summary: Paul was just as human as you or me. We all feel the pressure when others want us to conform. Like Paul, we all have to choose whether we stand on truth or bend to the will of the people around us.
