Summary: Paul’s words to Timothy are among the most hopeful and inspiring in all of the Bible.   

Perhaps there is no better description of Jesus’ reason for being born a man and dying on the cross than this passage: [God our Savior]… “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

Philippians 2:19 – Communication

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 

Summary: Life in ancient times lacked the mass communication we take for granted. To share news and ideas required patience and planning.   

This passage is a bit challenging to meditate on because it deals primarily with what is called “housekeeping.” Paul is sending a letter to the Philippians, but his reference to Timothy suggests that letters were a means of last resort in sending information.

Summary: Paul’s words put us in mind of the power of God to connect us in his Spirit.

Our modern world is an amalgam of strange and conflicting realities. 

On the one hand, technology has made it possible for us to be more connected with other people than ever. Do you want to talk with someone? Reach for your cell phone and call. If you don’t want to talk, you can text, or at the other end of the spectrum, you can use the video feature and call, talk, and see the person(s) you are talking with.
