Galatians 5:25 – The Ride of Our Lives

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Summary: Paul’s simple encouragement to “live by the Spirit” opens the door to wonderment as we consider what he means.

But the fruit of the Spirit is … love …

Summary: Paul begins describing how the Spirit of God changes us by describing those changes as “fruit.”

For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.

Summary: Once again Paul points us to the truth that there are reasons we wait, have faith, and hope.

At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now.

Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts …

Summary: In this passage, Paul gives us a different twist on what it means to have God’s Spirit in us.

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Summary: How do you run a race? Are you a natural athlete or do you prefer being a couch potato?

… so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Summary: How we look at faith may determine how God looks at us.

The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.”

Summary: Paul draws a contrast between faith and law, which leads to an unlikely comparison between faith and physics.

So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

Summary: Paul raises an interesting question. Does God work miracles through his law or through his Spirit?

Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?
